My Personal Narrative

Hey! My name’s Teddy.

I write about digital video and produce educational video content.

But it took me a decade and four countries for me to find this path.

As a cinephile and polyglot, I started my academic journey studying international cinema history.

My studies in Film and French at the College of William & Mary helped me fall in love with the works of Varda, Godard, and Akerman.

As the French department’s 2019 McCormack-Reboussin scholar, I received grants to conduct research at the Cinémathèque française in Paris and in Brussels, culminating in my thesis “Modernity Leave: The Sexual Mother of the French New Wave and Beyond.”

After graduating and moving to Spain, I found myself gravitating toward a new space: YouTube.

I produced and edited educational videos for a variety of clients, explaining French grammar through standup comedy and breaking down the science behind skin.

I even started up my own video essay channel “Lower Ed,” making accessible research and ideas from higher ed, examine the cultural history of the polar bear and the legends behind early cinema.

Now, I’m combining my interests in film and digital video as a masters student at Georgetown University’s M.A. in Communication, Culture, and Technology program.

I’m taking advantage of program’s interdisciplinary edge to study digital video through as many lenses as possible: film theory, qualitative methods, production, media history, critical theory, quantitative methods, and more.

Meanwhile, I work full time leading video production for Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business.

My passion project is my “Extra Credit” series, where I collaborate with a different professor every month to create fun videos exploring such topics as the top leadership movies of the year and inflation explained with board games.

My goal is to finding my unique academic voice in preparation for a PhD program.

By developing a more comprehensive understanding of digital video culture, I hope to contribute to the small but growing body of knowledge on this fascinating field.
